Breaking Through Worry

Bible Passage: Philippians 4:4-9

As we continue to work through our series on Breaking the Bonds there is one bond that really wears us out, and that is the bond of worry and anxiety. Just thinking about it makes me tired.

How many of you have already started the habitual Christmas worry pattern? What are you going to get for everyone? Do you have to have the perfect gift? Are they going to have it in stock? Is everyone going to come over? And then, after Christmas worry about paying for all the gifts we put on the credit card.

For many Christians, this Satanic bond leads to the destruction of the home and mind. The reason is that this bond is linked directly to your mind. It does not begin outwardly, but inwardly.

Worry and anxiety have become “accepted sins” among Christians. I say “accepted sins” because we don’t recognize them as sin and do not seek victory over them. Others, realize worry and anxiety are wrong, but try to hide their worry by giving it another name such as stress, troubles, disturbed, interested, or bothered.

Regardless of the term we use to describe worry and anxiety, worry saps your energy, destroys relationships, drains your joy, destroys your vision, curtails evangelism, and aggravates physical ailments. Additionally, and very, unfortunately, worry and anxiety are also contagious, easily caught, and fearfully experienced.
