The Connection Between Murder & Anger
Bible Passage: Matthew 5:21-26
I’d like for you to take the Word of God with me, please, and turn to Matthew 5:21-26. Every aspect of a true believer’s conduct must be characterized by a righteousness that surpasses mere appearance, but comes from the heart, not just the actions.
There is a critical principle for us to understand in rightly interpreting this sermon. As with the Old Testament law, these six points that Jesus is beginning in this section of the the Sermon on the Mount are presented as “samples.” That is, the sermon was not intended to be an exhaustive list of every possible instance of application, but a pattern which is to be learned, and then generalized to all attitudes, words, and actions in our lives.
