The Purpose of the Gospel, Part 2
The Purpose of the Gospel, Part 2
Bible Passage: 1 Thessalonians 2:1-12
I’d like for you to take the Word of God with me, please, and turn to 1 Thessalonians 2:1-12. Last week we look at 1 Thessalonians 1:5-10 and saw the power of the Gospel. Today, as we will see from our study, Paul continues with the gospel theme, but shifts from its power to its purpose. Let’s read the passage together.
Go back through with me and highlight every time Paul says Gospel.
Vs. 2 – the gospel of God
Vs. 4 – the gospel
Vs. 8 – the gospel of God
Vs. 9 – the gospel of God
God is emphasizing the gospel in this portion of Scripture. And truly, the gospel must be emphasized in our lives. The gospel is not just about changing our eternal destiny, but changing us completely and conforming us in the image of Christ. It is through the Gospel of God that we are transformed.
It is not just the power of a personal gospel, but the purpose of the gospel. I want you to see four purposes, if you will, about the gospel from our passage tonight.
